Photograph Signed
MAGNIFICENT PHOTOGRAPH SIGNED BY EINSTEIN AND PHOTOGRAPHER TRUDE FLEISCHMANN.
“Trude Fleischmann, who developed a passion for photography already as a child, rapidly became one of Vienna’s leading portrait photographers soon after opening her own studio at the age of twenty-five... Her outstanding portraits of intellectuals and artists... remain an important record of twentieth-century European culture...
“Because of her Jewish background Fleischmann was forced to seek work elsewhere after the Auschluss in 1938. Leaving behind most of her negatives, she emigrated to Paris, London and eventually... to New York” where she continued her work photographing influential people of her time (Jewish Women’s Archive Encyclopedia).
This rare, beautiful photograph, taken in 1946 and showing a thoughtful Einstein holding a pipe and standing against a dark background, is signed in full on the matte at the bottom left by Fleischmann and dated 1946 and signed on the bottom right by Einstein (“A. Einstein”) and dated 1951 (“51”).
Image size: 7x9 inches. Archivally framed and matted. Very good condition.
