“Godfather Einstein’s Advice”: Typed Document Signed

ORIGINAL SIGNED POEM BY EINSTEIN OFFERING ADVICE TO A CHILD.

The eight-line poem, titled “Godfather Einstein’s Advice”, reads in full:

When others often trouble you,
And evil you say or do,
Think: they too were hither brought.
A thing which they had never sought.

Think: you too, with best of will,
Plague take you! oft do others ill.
But, since this cannot be undone,
Gently think of every one.”

Signed (“Albert Einstein”) in ink at the end.

Einstein originally wrote this poem in German in 1933 for the infant son of Jacob and Ida Landau. (Jacob Landau was the Managing Director of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.) Einstein served as "godfather" for the infant's bris, and the child was named Albert in honor of Einstein.

One page (8 1/2 x 11), c1950. Handsomely framed. A unique item offering a wonderful example of the tender and humorous side of the great scientist.
